Inclusive Growth through Decent Work in the Great Rift Valley Project, Public Private Development Partnership (PPDP)

Public Private Development Partnerships (PPDP) is a modality for concrete cooperation between SIDA and private sector actors. PPDPs encourage the private sector to proactively create business ventures that also improve conditions for people living in poverty.

The development objective or long term impact of this Public Private Development Partnership (PPDP) is “Poverty reduction and improved living conditions through decent work and access to rights based services among the rural population in the Great Rift Valley.

Expected Outcomes

The Inclusive Growth through Decent Work in the Great Rift Valley Project, PPDP will achieve the following three long-term outcomes in support of accomplishing the above objectives:

  3. Communities have the capacity to lobby for increased access to public and social services e.g. water, education, health, sanitation, health, sanitation and County Governments have increased capacity to supply these public and social services.

To ensure that youth from the targeted communities attain the skills, qualifications and work place training experience required to improve their employability, the project will employ a 5 stage process:

  • Secure commitments with companies and industries to promote demand-driven skills development and employment opportunities for the young women and men from the immediate communities.

  • Secure Government commitment at both the central ad county levels and identify specific roles and responsibilities.

  • Develop occupational competency standards and relevant curriculum based on industry’s skills needs.

  • Through partnerships with the public and private sector partners, enhance the capacity of some vocational education and training centres to deliver the demand-driven skills training and link with industries for apprenticeships and attachments.
