Kenya-Italy Debt for Development Program:  Technical and Vocational Training Component

 

In line with MDG 1 and with the Youth Strategic Plan 2007-2012, and incorporating the Big Four Agenda, The Kenya Italy Debt for Development Programme (KIDDP) also supports the Technical and vocational training sector in Kenya. The general objective is to enhance employment opportunities of young Kenyans by empowering them with practical skills for enhanced economic growth. Specifically, KIDDP has been promoting the strengthening of the Youth Polytechnics through three components: construction/rehabilitation of infrastructure; procurement of training tools and equipment; and capacity building through training of management committee members, Youth Polytechnic managers & Youth Polytechnic instructors, and government officers. The following have been the KIDDP initiatives in the vocational training sector:

 

Activities

  • Enhancing improved access to technical and vocational training to Kenyan youths

  • Training of instructors and relevant government officers.

  • Construction/ rehabilitation of infrastructure for the TVET institutions

  • Availing of training tools and equipment

  • Provision of scholarship opportunities on a needs basis for would be students
