The Netherlands Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP)

The Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) is a Dutch-funded programme aimed at contributing to sustainable and inclusive development through the strengthening of organisations key to development. This will be achieved by developing the capacity, knowledge and quality of individuals as well as organisations both in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training and Higher Education (TVET/HE) and in other fields related to the priority thematic areas of food and nutrition security and water with a nexus for agriculture.

The Orange Knowledge Programme will last for 5 years and will be implemented through three types of interventions:

  • Individual scholarships;

  • group training; and

  • Institutional collaboration projects focusing on sustainable improvement of technical and higher education capacity through partnerships with Dutch education and training institutions

Activities:

  • Improve professional education and vocational training at the level of Polytechnics and Vocational Colleges in the agricultural value chains horticulture and dairy through strong collaboration with the private sector;

  • Support a system in which agricultural TVET teachers are practically trained

  • Improve the availability and sustainable use of water for agriculture through better knowledge about governance of water;

  • Provide Fellowships in (water-smart) agriculture for individuals;

  • Strengthen collaboration between TVET providers and universities in Kenya in the provisions of integrating water-smart and climate-smart agriculture programmes.

Location:

  • The OKP is a country-wide initiative
